NABLUS, (PIC)-- Ahrar center for prisoner studies and human rights strongly denounced the Israel military court of Ofer for issuing harsh prison sentences against Palestinian children under age 18, saying its verdicts are against international law.

According to the center, the Ofer court sentenced five children from Surif town in Al-Khalil from 30 to 50 months in jail.

Director of the center Fouad Al-Khafsh told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that these sentences did not take into account that the detainees are under age 18, and violated the international law which forbids the detention of children under this age.

Khafsh said that the Israeli detention places are not appropriate for children and the medical care provided for them is very bad.

He added that the Palestinian children stand trial in military courts and not in special courts for minors, and demanded the international human rights organizations to pay attention to the issue of Palestinian children in Israeli jails.

In a separate incident, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed at dawn Saturday a number of villages and towns of Al-Khalil city.

A security official told Quds Press that a large number of Israeli troops raided the towns of Idna and Yatta north of Al-Khalil and erected barriers at their entrances.

The source added that an Israeli military force headed afterwards to Deir Al-Asal southwest of Al-Khalil, cordoned it off, and then embarked on searching individuals and vehicles.
